FURNISH AND MAXIMIZE SPACE IN A TINY HOUSE
HOW DO YOU FURNISH AND MAXIMIZE THE SPACE IN AN TINY HOUSE?
A tiny house can be seen as a miniature house, which makes furnishing more challenging than in an apartment or a larger house. Here we share our best tips for maximizing space.
MAXIMIZE SPACE WITH COMPACT LIVING SOLUTIONS
Compact living is a well-known concept and lifestyle that focuses on finding smart solutions to maximize the use of smaller spaces and create a functional, comfortable, and stylish home. This is most common in big cities where apartments are very small, but also in cottages and tiny houses.
FURNITURE WITH DOUBLE FUNCTION
It's fantastic when you find furniture that is multifunctional and can be used for more than one purpose! Some examples of such furniture are sofa beds, which easily become a bed when you have guests or the perfect spot for a cozy movie night. Drop-leaf tables are also a smart choice for smaller spaces, like in a tiny house, as they take up minimal space when the table tops are folded down. Use it as a kitchen table, dining table, or desk for homework or working from home. An advantage of drop-leaf tables is that you don't need extra extension leaves, as they are fixed but never in the way.
An upholstered footstool can become a chaise longue for everyday use, but serves as extra seating when you have guests. A bar stool can quickly transform into a stylish pedestal. Ordinary chairs become a sleek bedside table with space for books, a glass of water, and a small flower vase.
UTILIZE WINDOW SILLS AND CEILING HEIGHT
A well-known trick to make a room feel larger is to use curtain rails that are attached to the ceiling. Light curtains from floor to ceiling give a sense of generous ceiling height. Something that many do not think about is that window sills can be used for storage. This is the perfect place for books, magazines, and small boxes – which also makes the home more personal.
CHOOSE A SOFA THAT CAN GROW WITH THE SPACE
We recommend choosing a neat smaller sofa, or alternatively, a modular sofa. If you choose a modular sofa, it is more flexible. Build it as a straight sofa or choose a corner model to maximize the space.
COFFEE TABLES WITH MULTIPLE USES
Choose a coffee table that can also function as a side table to easily free up space when needed. It can also be used as an extra surface during dinners. Decorate with personal details and seasonal flowers for a natural focal point in the room.
FOOL THE EYE AND MAKE THE SPACE FEEL LARGER
Light wall colors and a uniform color scheme provide a harmonious feeling, even in small rooms. Mirrors create an illusion of space and are often used in the hallway and bedroom, but also fit in the living room – by the dining table, sofa, or next to the TV bench as a decorative detail.
If the mirrors are placed to reflect daylight from the window, the room becomes brighter and feels larger.
