FURNISHING NEWLY BUILT HOUSE IN SCANDINAVIAN STYLE
CREATE A HOMELY FEELING IN A NEWLY BUILT HOUSE
Decorating a newly built house can feel like starting with a blank slate. The clean lines and neutral walls provide a fantastic foundation, but how do you create a personal and cozy atmosphere? Josefin Dahlberg has decorated her newly built home in Scandinavian style and shares her thoughts and best tips for creating a warm and inviting home.
A HOME FOCUSED ON RECOVERY & RELAXATION
Josefin and her family have built their home by the sea, on the same island where she grew up. The view and the tranquil surroundings contribute to her sense of balance and recovery. For many years, Josefin has worked to inspire a healthier life and for her, the home is a place for relaxation and self-care, where a mindful home plays a significant role in taking care of oneself – sometimes through a moment on the yoga mat, sometimes by simply enjoying a quiet moment.
When it came to interior design, Josefin wanted to create a harmonious environment that promoted relaxation. She chose light, earthy tones like beige combined with natural materials such as wood. For her, a tone-on-tone palette provides natural harmony, and by adding personal details, the home comes to life without feeling cluttered.

CREATE A COHESIVE THEME IN A NEWLY BUILT HOUSE
A cohesive theme in interior design is achieved when all elements interact and form a whole. A good trick is to work with repetition – use the same color, material, or shape in different ways throughout the home.
TIPS FOR TYING TOGETHER THE INTERIOR:
- A common color or cohesive color scheme.
- Recurring material choices
- A consistent type of wood.
JOSEFIN'S 5 BEST TIPS FOR CREATING A COZY FEELING
- UNIQUE DETAILS: Flea market finds and inherited items from an old relative or friend create a personal and historical feel.
- PLANTS: Try to incorporate something green in every room, it enhances the natural, cozy feeling.
- MIX MATERIALS: Dare to mix different materials that go well together to create a nice balance. Josefin loves light wood and stone, which is why the TARANSAY dining table and ORWEL console table were two obvious choices in the decor.
- LIGHTING: Lamps are an important factor in creating the right atmosphere. Josefin decorates with many different lamps that adorn the house like jewelry. The lamps make the rooms both nicer and cozier.
- ROOM IN ROOM: In large open spaces, it's smart to create smaller zones for a cozier atmosphere. They have created two lovely seating areas in the same room – a TV corner with a sofa and coffee table, and a lounge area perfect for guests or a quiet moment with a book. Two cozy "rooms" in one that make the home even more inviting.

ADD WARMTH TO NEW PRODUCTION
Many newly built homes have light walls and straight lines, which can feel cold. According to Josefin, light is one of the most important factors for creating a warm atmosphere. In addition to traditional lighting, she also uses candles in candlesticks and lanterns, which provide a soft and inviting light.
Color also adds warmth to the light, straight lines in a new production. Whether you choose colorful shades or light beige and gray tones, it gives the home a cozy feel. If you prefer light walls, you can create a cozy atmosphere by adding colorful interior details or furniture, such as a sofa or rug.
Natural wood types are a fantastic trick to make a new production feel warm and cozy. Many wood types go well together, and by mixing and matching different wood types, you can easily create an inviting feel.
